Dorothy Grimm, age 92 of Madison, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at Peaceful Pines under the care of Avera Hospice.
Memorial service was at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, February 24 at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ann Spitzenberger officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Dorothy Dean Balogh was born September 25, 1932 to Steven & Engel (Meester) Balogh in Willow Lake, S.D. She grew up in Willow Lake and graduated in 1950. She attended college in Madison and taught at a country school.
In 1951, she enlisted into the United States Navy and served in the Waves until 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Virgel Grimm, in San Diego, C.A. on April 21, 1954, while the both of them were still in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, Dorothy and Virgel had four children and eventually moved to Madison.
In 1968, she returned to college, received her Bachelor's Degree, and taught school in Ramona, S.D. for 23 years and retired in 1994.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wentworth. She served many years as Treasurer and as an Elder. She enjoyed being a member of the small congregation and loved its church members. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening and spending time with her family. Many fun times were had spending time with her and Virgel's siblings and spouses.
Dorothy is survived by her four children and their spouses, Pam Ullon (Mark DeShepper), Timothy Grimm, Gregory (Debra) Grimm and Lori (Pat) Byrd, and all of Madison, S.D. She is also Survived by 9 grandchildren, Kimber (Tony) Guischer Andy Ullom, Kari (Matt) Hart, Nathan (Tanya) Grimm, Justin (Anna) Grimm, Jenn (Mike) Kamrud, Kristen (Wade) Bialas, Casey Byrd, and Abby (Ryan) Schlesser; 15 great-grandchildren, Kaden and Reese Guischer, Logan and Payton Grimm, Mason Ullom, Brynnlee and Hadley Hart, Emmersynn, Londynn and Irelynn Kamrud, Kinsley, Taya Jo, and Hailey Mae Bialas, and Miles and Reid Schlesser; one sister, Darlene Buck; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Marge) Grimm, Darwin (Valoy) Grimm and many loved nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Virgel Grimm; parents, Steve & Engel Balogh and in-laws, Ernest and Elsie Grimm; her brother and wife Kenneth (Evie) Balogh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Glen) Green, LeAlma (Orville) Thompson and Steve Buck; brother and sisters-in-law, Ernest Grimm, Bill (Betty) Grimm, Flossie (Jon) Disrud and Elsie (Bud) Houghton; special niece and nephews, Cathy Kappenman, Kendall Thompson, Roger Knock and Bernie Christenson.
