Welcome to my corner! Last week, I shared my last creations for Inktober 2024. This week, I'm sharing some of my favorite submissions from Inktober 2024. These submissions are from the individuals that will receive the prize money! Congratulations!
Inktober 2024

This most popular Inktober day for submissions was Day 21, Rhinoceros. I enjoyed that day for drawing as well. The two best submissions for rhinoceros are pictured here.

Animals were popular this year for the prompts. Another of my favorite submissions came from Day 14, Roam. The artist drew a bison. Smart choice!
Since I was sharing Inktober creations with you the whole month of October, I didn't have space to do anything else. So, I'm going to take the next few weeks to share with you some of the spooky movies I watched recently. During October, I like to watch older horror movies, in honor of spooky season. Unlike previous years, this year I decided to watch only movies I hadn't already seen, in an attempt to expand my film repertoire.
Spooky season is really the only time of the year; I'll watch horror movies because I don't generally like scary movies. And, because I don't like really scary movies, I don't watch any horror movies that were made after the 1990s. This may sound weird, but I find horror movies made before the 2000s a lot less scary than modern horror movies. Today's horror movies rely a lot more on jump scares, and I don't appreciate that one bit.
Anyway, here are a few of the 'new to me' horror movies I watched this Halloween and what I thought of them. I won't share the entire list of course; that's far too many.
The Wicker Man
Most recently, I watched The Wicker Man from 1973. Film synopsis: A puritan police sergeant arrives in a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl, who the pagan locals claim never existed. I've seen bits and pieces of the 2006 version with Nicolas Cage on YouTube, but other that I didn't have an inkling of what this movie was about. I gathered from what I already knew, and the synopsis, that the film was about a cult.

I won't spoil anything, but man, it was scary just how inhuman some of the characters/people seemed to be. Christopher Lee played the big baddy, cult leader in this movie. I've always enjoyed Lee's performances in movies. Actors that can play baddies convincingly and perfectly are my favorite. Before this spooky season, I didn't realize that Lee had played virtually every villain role in a horror film made in the 1970s. I can't even count how many movies I watched this season that he starred in. I didn't mind it by any means, but it just struck me as funny. I even watched a rare horror movie where Lee DIDN'T play the villain. I was flabbergasted at that. The title of that film was The Devil Rides Out. I probably won't be talking about that one, though.
Back to The Wicker Man, I didn't realize how big of a role religion played in the movie as well. Obviously the cult, but also the main character's religious beliefs. Strangely enough, the thing that gives thee movie its title isn't mentioned or shown until the end of the movie, which I found odd. The ending was sort of what I expected, but at the same time not. Certainly give it a watch if you're into creepy, weird, twisted, scary British movies.
The Walking Dead
Another film I watched this season was the 1936 film The Walking Dead starring Boris Karloff. No, not the more popular The Walking Dead TV show that aired from 2010-2022. Film synopsis: After hapless pianist and ex-con John Elman is framed for murder, he is resurrected by a scientist after his execution. Technically, I watched this movie last year as well, but I didn't really remember it, so I rewatched it this year. I really enjoyed it. Karloff plays innocent man who is executed and resurrected by the scientist.

Unlike other horror movies of this time, including Karloff's many horror roles, there wasn't a monster seeking people and killing them off. Instead, this horror movie was more about justice and revenge in a way. Again, I won't spoil the ending, but the group that set up Karloff's character and got him executed got what they deserved by the end of the film. Funny enough, it was a refreshing horror film. Nothing like you would normally see and probably nothing that was ever really seen again. I would definitely recommend this one! I know I'll watch it again.
