Jack Duane Karber was born on March 14, 1935 to John "Jack" and Aveline (Hubbard) Karber in Clark, S.D. He graduated in 1953 from Clark High School and then moved to the Black Hills and worked at the Homestake Gold Mine. He moved back to Clark for a short time before transferring to the Red Owl in Mitchell, S.D. until 1984 when he moved to Pierre, S.D. and worked for Sutley's as the produce manager until he retired in 2008.
Jack started his family in 1954 with Mike, Hollie, Kim and Brett. On September 15, 1973, he married the love of his life, Pat Hanssen. He expanded his family with Jason, Jody, Jamie, Pamela, Paul and Phil. Jack was so proud of having his big family - passing on his strong work ethic, his smart-ass personality and his love for people. All who knew him loved him.
After retirement, Jack got to enjoy hunting and fishing with the most important people in his life - his children, grandchildren and his dog, Molly. He also enjoyed gardening and sitting on his deck watching his birds, squirrels and bunnies. He was a lifelong Vikings fan, and in the past few years, he enjoyed playing fantasy football with his kids. He especially enjoyed the war between his girls stating who was his favorite.
Jack leaves behind a strong family who will forever miss him but will carry on his memory of love for family and the great outdoors, including his children Mike (Jan), Hollie, Kim (Paul), Brett, Jason (Ali), Jody Jamie (Laina), Pamela (Shad), Paul (Mandy) and Phil (Kari); his spoiled hunting dog, Molly; 28 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Terry (Cindy) and Gene (Kim) Hanssen and their families.
Welcoming Jack into Heaven are his parents, Jack and Aveline; his wife, Pat; in-laws Lawrence and Fern; grandchildren Lawrence and Kiarra; daughter-in-law Danielle; and numerous hunting dogs.
In honor of Jack and his love for hunting and the Minnesota Vikings, please wear your hunting gear or Viking gear. As Dad would say, "This is the year of the Vikings."
